NOV = NOTICE OF VIOLATION
It is a written opinion of a building department enforcement inspector that something does not conform to rules and regulations as witnessed at time of inspection.
Receiving a violation does not automatically mean that something is wrong. It means that you must hire a licensed professional to check it out and either prove that it is up to code or have it corrected to meet or exceed the code.
It is best to address NOV as soon as possible, especially for Class 1 violation. The civil penalties for dragging your feet can rise to $25,000 dollars. Only the Certificate of Correction will stop the clock.
